Thank you for some wonderful memories. I lived in Akrotiri in the 60s and we had our summer holidays in 1968 at the Grecian Hotel in Famagusta! I also had many friends in Famagusta and Dhekelia.

Hi I was at RAF Nicosia from late 1971 until late 1973. I seem to remember the CSA aircraft and a team from Akrotri had to clear teh runway. I was surprised to see the Cyprus airways Tridents as ithought the picture was of the Cyprus airways Trident taht hit the undershot and was then repaired and flown back as a BEA aircraft. I was on duty the night that the Egyptian aircraft crashed. A helicopter from Nicosia went up to view the scene witha medic but there was nothing that could be done. The Mountain rescue team from Akrotri then had to travel to start teh recovery. Not nice but generally it was a great time and I was particularly impressed with the friendlyness of the Cypriots who made my life a rael pleasure for the two years out there. I even learnt to Ski opn Troodos

I know it's a long shot, but here goes. I lived in Cyprus between 70 and 74, my parents and I lived in (if I can remember) Koumipa flats on John F Kennedy Avenue. Here comes the long shot bit! I was a 8 or 9 year old then and stared in an advert for condensed milk (Galla Sissi). I was wondering, if by any chance you would know of any archive of old TV ads from Cyprus. All the best Julian

Thankyou for an informative site. In 1959 I lived in an apartment that was part of the Hadjisoteriou family home in Hippocrates St across the road from Alassi Beach. My father worked for the British government and I went to King Richard School in Dhekelia. I remember your parents (I think your Mother's name was Maroula?). They had a new baby - presumably you! For people who want to mark individual buildings and places on the satellite maps, there is an amazing application based on Google maps athttp://www.wikimapia.org Basically, you can outline an area on the map and then enter a description. Satellite imagery of Varosha and Famagusta is in the coverage area. For those who still remember individual buildings and places, it is an amazing way to bring the city back to life by annotating it for others.

what an excellent site!! myself and a few friends were hoping to visit next month as mistakenly thought that we might visit varosha - the greek side of famagusta. unfortunatley, it appears that we are unable to do so. we were stationed at 4 mile point in the sixties and many of lived in the town - kennedy avenue, miaoulis street, etc. we are all cyrofiles and retain a great love of the area. many of us now live in cyprus - most around paphos but some in larnaca = the best of luck with the site clive morris
