Showcasing my photos on PBase is a relatively new initiative for me although I have used other web hosting sites for digital images before. I am a "birder" (birdwatcher) more than a photographer, but photography is becoming an increasingly more important part of my hobby. Having spent a lot of money on various combinations of P&S digital cameras, adapters, etc. to use in conjunction with my Swarovski ATS 80 HD telescope, I have come to the conclusion that "digiscoping" is a very limited technique and will never produce the quality of images I desire. It still has a place as a method of producing "record shots" of birds at long distance, but is not the "art-form" that comes with DSLR photography. I began with a Canon 400D (XTi) and an old EF 70-210mm lens from my film camera days, but have now moved up to a Canon 1DMk3 body and 500mm f/4 L IS prime lens as well as the 100-400mm L IS zoom and the 400mm L f/5.6.
There are duplicates of some images in several galleries; these will eventually be "cleared up" but the reason is that as I become more proficient at post-processing (using Canon's "DPP", "Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac" and "Neat Image") I find myself going back to the original RAW files and making improvements on my first attempts.
Whilst birds are my main subjects I have begun adding images of other wildlife and pets as well as general scenes of the Algarvian countryside.
